Autumn Recap (September, October and November Monthly Recaps Omnibus)

Hello my dear followers and thank you for choosing to read my thoughts! It’s been 3 months since I last did a monthly recap and I felt quite bad about procrastinating since this is my favourite feature to do on this blog. I have to admit it has been really hard for me to write anything down, with school, a lot of exams, A-Levels getting closer, driving school, work, tutoring and university applications. Additionally, having suffered from depression and still suffering from anxiety is not really helping at the moment. I was afraid I might quit this blog if I kept tormenting myself with the thought that I was letting people down, and decided that I should just wait and the right time will come. However I can’t even promise myself to fully come back, but this also means I’m not quitting yet. And to end this sad talk on a more positive tone, I’d like to remember everyone that you shouldn’t keep doing something you don’t enjoy anymore and if you’re in a similar situation like I am, better times are coming and don’t let go of your hope.

Movies I Watched

Giving a movie a score 10 for me it doesn’t mean that the movie is a masterpiece, but that there was at least an aspect so wonderful that the movie will always have a special place in my heart.

1. Bad Moms (2016) (19.10) Score: 8,5

Together with my dear friend Iri and 2 other friends we watched this movie at the cinema. We laughed a lot and had a really great time 🙂 I can totally recommend this movie for a girls’ night or in general for a friends’ night. On of my favourite parts was the “interview” at the end with the actresses and their mothers. If you’re looking for a comedy this is definitely the right choice, but if you want something more intellectual with some kind of deeper life meaning you’re not in the right spot.

Amy:  I’m Amy Mitchell, and I’m a mom. I had my first kid when I was twenty years-old, and I’ve been running late ever since. My days are filled with dropping the kids at school, then racing to work where I have meeting, after meeting,
after meeting. I usually end up eating a shitty lunch at my desk, and I try to work out once a week. Why do I suck at Zumba? Most days, I race back to school for the kids’ plays, and poetry readings and class projects, which I’m always late for. And then there’s PTA meetings, and volunteering and parent-teacher conferences. Jesus, Miss Wiggins
fucking hates me. At least once a day, I feel like the worst mom in the world, and I cry in my car. Then I shuttle the kids to piano lessons and soccer games and dance classes and doctors’ appointments, before my daily trip to the grocery store. This chick seems like she’s got it all figured out. But I feel like I’m screwing up all the time. Still, I love being a mom.

2. Memento (2000) (30.10) Score: 10

I never read anything about the movie or watched the trailer, but picked it up solely based on the poster, which as a bibliophile I know is not the correct way to choose a book or movie. Putting that aside I think this movie is quite close to a masterpiece since I’ve never seen anything like it. The movie focuses on a man who suffers from short-term memory loss (anterograde amnesia) and is on the search for his wife’s killer. What makes this movie (for many) hard to understand is the fact that the story is told backwards and it can take up to the end of the movie to fully understand it. That’s what makes it for me a great movie.

Leonard Shelby: I have to believe in a world outside my own mind. I have to believe that my actions still have meaning, even if I can’t remember them. I have to believe that when my eyes are closed, the world’s still there. Do I believe the world’s still there? Is it still out there?… Yeah. We all need mirrors to remind ourselves who we are. I’m no different.

Leonard Shelby: I’m not a killer. I’m just someone who wanted to make things right. Can’t I just let myself forget what you’ve told me? Can’t I just let myself forget what you’ve made me do. You think I just want another puzzle to solve? Another John G. to look for? You’re John G. So you can be my John G… Will I lie to myself to be happy? In your case Teddy… yes I will.

3. The Breakfast Club (1985) (30.10) Score: 8

Comparing to Memento, I heard a lot about this movie before watching it and it has been on my watch list for a long time. I’m not saying that it is a bad movie, to the contrary. I enjoyed to a certain extent. I’m still a teenager, for the 10 months at least, and I can relate to many aspects of the movie. On the other side it shows something that I do not agree with, and that are stereotypes. Maybe because of my upbringing or just who I am, this movie did not completely work for me.

Brian Johnson: Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But we think you’re crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us – in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain…
Andrew Clark: …and an athlete…
Allison Reynolds: …and a basket case…
Claire Standish: …a princess…
John Bender: …and a criminal…
Brian Johnson: Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, the Breakfast Club.

4. Dracula Untold (17.11) Score: 8,5

5. The Holiday (17.11) Score: 9,5

6. Mortdecai (18.11) Score: 7

7. Orphan (18.11) Score: 9,5

8. Coraline (22.11) Score: 8

9. Spotlight (22.11) Score: 10

10. Epic Movie (26.11) Score: 6

11. Donnie Darko (28.11) Score: 10

TV Shows I Watched

Autumn is my favorite season  when it comes to TV shows, as many of them release new seasons. Elementary, Lucifer, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, Once Upon a Time and Teen Wolf are killing me right now, because of how hard it is to stay up to date with all of them.

Newest Additions To The Bookshelf:

As you can see in the pictures above, I bought quite a lot of books in the past 3 months. The October lot I got in England on my school holiday from charity shops and We Were Liars I got as a birthday present from a friend. All in all I manged to reduce my monthly book-buying habit (or so it seems).

And that is what happened in the past 3 months more or less. Thank you for reading and I wish you a wonderful December.

The Sunshine Blogger Award

It is always very overwhelming whenever I am being nominated for an award so thank you Diana @Night Train To Zurich for nominating me. You should definitely check out her blog immediately!

1. Which is your favourite fairytale?
Over the past few years I’ve been revisiting a couple of my childhood favourite fairytales and I started seeing all the things that simply make no sense, which lead to me not liking them as much anymore. I hope one day I’ll find my love for them again. One that I fell in love with easily and never stopped loving, is The Ugly Duckling.

2. You can choose any character to go to a concert with (as a friend, as a sibling, as a date, whatever). Who would you choose and what concert would you go to?
Of course I had to choose my perfect book date/ book boyfriend, Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries.

3. Do you have any quirks (movements you do a lot, or something you do when you’re nervous…)?
I bite my nails when I’m nervous, but I’m trying to switch to pens.

4. Is there a movie that you enjoyed more than the book it was based on?
The Hobbit. I can watch action-adventure movies with no problem, but when it comes to reading them ughhh. I find fighting senses so boring, long and annoying in books. Maybe when I’ll give the book another try I’ll like it more.

5.  When it comes to books, do you prefer an open ending or one where everything is resolved?
Both. I’m a wanna-know-it-all kind of person and a book where everything is resolved is perfect for me, but sometimes I do like an open ending and enjoy the pleasure of continuing the story the way I want.

6. Favourite ice-cream flavour?
Chocolate.

7. If you could bring back one TV Show from your childhood which would it be?
There are a few that cross my mind (Life with Louie, Dennis the Menace, What’s with Andy?), but the one I’d love to see again is Bad Dog.

8. A book a lot of people didn’t like but you did?
I cannot give an answer as I haven’t read that many books. I can’t even think of a book “a lot of people didn’t like”.

9. Rainy or sunny days?
Depends on whether I want to read outside. If I don’t it doesn’t matter.

10. What did you want to become (job-wise) when you were a kid?
An archaeologist and then a doctor.

11. Favourite book friendship (two or more people)?
Harry, Ron and Hermione.

My Questions:

  1. What Hogwarts house are you in?
  2. What Ilvermorny house are you in?
  3. Have you read Harry Potter and The Cursed Child already or planning to?
  4. Is there a book you own more than one copy of?
  5. What kind of book or movie related merchandise do you own?
  6. If you could have personally witnessed anything, what would you want to have seen?
  7. What’s your favourite TV show?
  8. What’s your favourite movie?
  9. If you could be any book character who would you be and why?
  10. What do you look at first: the book cover or the blurb?
  11. Which book should everyone read?

10 Characters That I’d Name My Children After

Friday 56Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

The lovely folks over at The Broke and the Bookish decided that this week should be a Freebie Week, which means that we can either do something of our choice or go back and choose an older topic. I feel like I’m going to totally cheat on this one, because I have a tiny obsession with names and I’d probably need to have at least 10 children to satisfy my need of name giving (and all of them would get 2 names). I get my inspirations mostly from TV shows, but a few book names will be recognisable too. (Note: I’m not 100% I’ll choose these exact combinations, so bear with me)

Noah Killian & Abigail Hope

Noah Hutchins from Pushing the Limits; Killian Jones from Once Upon a Time, the BEST TV show there is, in case you love fairy tales. I know this is probably a weird name and my child would probably hate me for it, but he would have 2 names so win-win. Abigail Hobbs from Hannibal. She’s not exactly some one you wish your child would become someday, but I think the name it’s pretty beautiful. Hope Mikaelson from The Originals.

Kai Samuel & Liesel Ariel

Kai from The Vampire Diaries; Samuel Winchester from Supernatural; Liesel from The Book Thief; Ariel from The Little Mermaid

Peter Landon & Lina Sophia

Peter Pan; Landon from A Walk To Remember; Lina from Between Shades of Grey; Sophia from The Longest Ride

Ruth Hermione & Ira Neville

Ruth and Ira from The Longest Ride; Hermione and Neville from Harry Potter

Luna Merida & Kyle Niklaus

Luna from Harry Potter; Merida from Brave, Kyle from The Host; Niklaus from The Originals

Another wonderful Top Ten Tuesday (or should I say 20?). What about you? What names would you choose?

Most Likely To… Book Tag

The Character Most Likely too... (1)Hello every one!

I wasn’t actually personally tagged, Louise@GenieReads was and basically tagged every one and I decided to accept the challenge, because I liked it a lot! You can click here to read her post. Thank you Louise for participating and spreading the fun! 🙂 Also, you should check her blog for more, because it is wonderful!

Rules / Instructions

  1. Put 18 book characters into a jar and shake it up.
  2. Have the first three most likely to… categories ready. Pick three names from the jar and apply them to the first three categories.
  3. Keep going until you have none left!

ROUND 1

Who’s most likely to…

  1. Have kids first
  2. Cry at a movie
  3. Get arrested

The Characters: Lauren Holbrook from Hidden Fires, Ira Levinson from The Longest Ride and Liesel Meminger from The Book Thief

Lauren will definitely have kids first, because 1. she is a young married women and ahm.. I’m not going to spoil the book 2. she lives in the 19th century, which is long before the other two were born.
Ira is going to cry at a movie, because men cry at movies too, especially if they watch Fast & Furious (7).
Liesel will definitely get arrested, because she lived in Nazi Germany and she was stealing books.

ROUND 2

Who’s most likely to…

  1. Become a crazy cat lady/man
  2. Become a multi-millionaire
  3. Start knitting as a hobby

The Characters: Sherlock Holmes, Bilbo Baggins from The Hobbit and Grenouille from Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

Sherlock will become a crazy cat man, because he’s a high-functioning sociopath and he’ll need company after Watson leaves him.
Grenouille will become a multi-millionaire with the help of his perfumery skills.
Bilbo will start knitting as a hobby, because he’s old, bored and most probably Gandalf won’t take him on a trip again.

ROUND 3

Who’s most likely to…

  1. Be a closet nerd
  2. Become an actor/actress
  3. Fall down the stairs

The Characters: Scout Finch from To Kill a Mockingbird, Lucy Pevensie from The Chronicles of Narnia and Ram Mohammad Thomas from Slumdog Millionaire

Hard choice…. I would say the nerd would be Scout; we only knew her when she was small, so maybe she will become one when she grows up.
Lucy would become an actress with the help of her experiences gained in Narnia.
Ram will fall down the stairs, because he might be clumsy (?) or drunk (?)

ROUND 4

Who’s most likely to…

  1. Collect that many books they have a personal library
  2. Win the Hunger Games
  3. Be tumblr famous

The Characters: Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries, Christopher Boone from The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and Robert Langdon from Angels & Demons.

Christopher will probably collect a lot of books, because of having Asperger syndrome. He’s also very smart and introvert.
Damon would totally win the Hunger Games, because he’s a vampire.
Robert would be tumblr famous with his symbolistic knowledge; I’d definitely follow him.

ROUND 5

Who’s most likely to…

  1. Go through a goth phase
  2. Have a one night stand
  3. Go to comic con

The Characters: Edward Cullen from Twilight, Romeo Montague from Romeo and Juliet, Hanna Schmitz from The Reader.

(Sorry Twilight fans) Edward will be going through a goth phase (or he did already).
Hanna would be having a one night stand, because she doesn’t really get attached to people.
Romeo would go to comic con, but I can’t decide which comic would be his reason.

ROUND 6

Who’s most likely to…

  1. Get married
  2. Have a cool mug collection
  3. Be a night owl (stays awake most of the night)

The Characters: Augustus Water from The Fault in our Stars, Voldemort from Harry Potter and Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

THIS is a hard choice… for Augustus there would an obvious easy choice, but then I’m left with two men that don’t fit the other 2 scenarios. I’ll say he would get married first, since he’s the one with the highest chances of ever finding somebody. Wonka would own a cool mug collections and probably invent some really crazy ones. Voldemort would be a night owl, because he’s not actually a man and doesn’t need sleep at all.

This was really fun, although my luck failed me and didn’t get to make some really funny questions. Putting that aside I’d like to nominate the following people:

Mikaela @itsmemikaelaKelly @mynameisnotkatieSheri @readinaflashGretchen @chicnerdreads, Shannon @ClockworkBibliophileMia, Lynette and Vibha @geekyfangirls, Diana @nighttrainbooks and YOU!

Monthly Recap: May 2016

Hello everybody and a Happy International Children’s Day for those who celebrate it (a day later)! I’m happy to say that I achieved the goal I set last month and also managed to balance my free-time activities and make time for everything that I wanted to do. 🙂

Movies I’ve watched:

So… this month I only watched 4 movies, which I know is pretty weak, but hey it can’t always be the same (last month there have been 5 and the month before 13. Hopefully I’ll watch more this month #NewGoalSet)

X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)  #540       Score: 9.6                  25.05.2016
As a huge superheroes fan this was definitely my cinematic highlight this month. My full review to this movie is here.

Erik Lensherr: Does it ever wake you in the middle of the night? The feeling that one day, they’ll come for you? And your children?
Charles Xavier: I feel a great swell of pity for the poor soul who comes to my school looking for trouble.

The Time Traveler’s Wife (2009)  #539       Score:9.2         20.05.2016

Clare Abshire: Honey, do you know who that is playing with Alba?
Henry DeTamble: That’s Alba.
Clare Abshire: Yes, I know, but who is that with her?
Henry DeTamble: That’s your daughter. She’s time-travelling.

Captain America: Civil War (2016)  #538       Score: 9.6         19.05.2016
I’ve read a lot of comments on this movie from people saying that they shifted back and forth between team Cap and team Stark, which I found quite strange, because I, from the begging to the end, was only on Steve Roger’s side. I was quite disappointed with Tony Stark. Don’t get me wrong, I do have a heart and felt sorry for what he has been through, but felt he lost his superhero spirit. He didn’t seem to want to fight any more and wasn’t really joining the Avengers. You could be thinking ‘And what about Thor or Hawkeye or let’s not forget Hulk. Aren’t they doing the same?’ The answer is yes, BUT Iron-Man has been my one true hero for more than 6 years and seeing him quit fighting and accepting to sign the Hero Registration Act broke my heart. A lot of people seem to think Cap is the ‘bad guy’ now, which is wrong. I think he did the right thing defending his best friend and fighting for the truth.

Captain America: [about Bucky] He’s my friend.
Iron-Man: So was I.

This annoyed me so much. All I wanted to say to Tony was ‘If YOU would have been a true friend, you would have listened and trusted Steve no matter what!’ Breath in, breath out Demetra. It’s just a movie. I’m more enraged by Iron-Man than Donald Trump at the moment, which I know it’s not healthy. ‘giggles’. To put it in a nutshell, the movie was great, even if I had to say goodbye to my hero. But hey, it is a free world and if you are on team Stark that’s fine with me, but never tell me that you would be on team Trump, because that I won’t accept.

Spider-Man:Hey guys, you ever see that really old movie, Empire Strikes Back?
War Machine:Jesus, Tony, how old is this guy?
Iron Man: I don’t know, I didn’t carbon date him. He’s on the young side.

Steve Rogers:This job… we try to save as many people as we can. Sometimes that doesn’t mean everybody. But if we can’t find a way to live with that, next time… maybe nobody gets saved.

Goosebumps (2015)  #537       Score:9.3         06.05.2016
I didn’t know much about this movie; it was my brother who convinced me to watch and I’m very glad he did. It’s got some big similarities to Inkheart, but it didn’t bother me. It was a nice cozy movie, until Jack Black appeared and all of a sudden it got serious, a bit scary, funny and adventurous all at the same time. The plot idea, although not very original, it’s very appealing; who wouldn’t want his/her book girlfriend/boyfriend to come out of a book?

R.L. Stine: All the monsters I’ve ever created are locked inside these books. But when they open…

TV Shows I’ve watched:

This month has been pretty rich in watching TV shows. I’ve finished watching The Vampire Diaries (season 7), The Originals (season 3), Supernatural (season 11), Elementary (season 4), Once Upon A Time (season 5) and most of them traumatized me and then made me happy again. Oh, how much I love this shows!
Image result for supernatural season 11 poster
I’ve also started watching season 3 from Da Vinci’s Demons, but I’m not as interested in it as I was in the begging. I think is going to far with into sci-fi and that’s not why I wanted to watch it the first place. Anyway, it was cancelled so I just have this one season to watch and then I’ll be over with it. I also have season 3 from Hannibal and from season 8 on from Doctor Who to watch. I hope to finish these 2 this month as Pretty Little Liars and Beauty And The Beast are all starting this month and I wish to focus more on the new seasons.
Image result for beauty and the beast season 4 poster

With the help of this wonderful website I’m now able to keep track of how much time I spend watching TV shows ‘yay’. This month only I’ve spent almost 53 hours watching movies and TV shows.

Books I’ve Read:

I’ve read 1138 pages in total, 37 pages a day.

Tag: The Harry Potter Book Tag

Hello and welcome! I was tagged for this wonderful tag by the more wonderful Shannon @ClockworkBibliophile, which you should definitely follow👍. Confession hour: I haven’t yet read the Harry Potter series (I did watch the movies though). I’m planing to read them very soon. You know what? For you Shannon (maybe also thanks) I’ll borrow the first book from my school library on Monday.

Flagrate

A book that you found interesting but would like to rewrite

Skellig by David Almond

The synopsis gave me some expectations that were later not to be fulfilled. The fact that I can’t point out the reason why I want it to be rewritten, or what exactly should be, proves that this book didn’t have an impact on me. (Goodreads synopsis: Unhappy about his baby sister’s illness and the chaos of moving into a dilapidated old house, Michael retreats to the garage and finds a mysterious stranger who is something like a bird and something like an angel…)

Alohomora

The first book in a series that got you hooked

The Awakening by L.J. Smith

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES IS EVERYTHING! Maybe it’s not best to talk about this series like this on a tag about HP, but one can love more books at once and for the past 6 years TVD ment the world to me in matter of books. I remember buying the book and starting reading it in the car. I continued throughout the night. 5-6 hours later I was finished with it and I WANTED MORE. I blame it all on the hormones, I used to be very hyperactive. Now 6 years have passed and I achieved a number of 15 books, main, prequel and sequel stories, an obssesion for 2 TV shows (TVD and The Originals) and a wall full of TVD posters.

Accio

A book that you wish you could have right now

Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

Ughhh… I’ve heard so many good things about this book, but it’s not yet available for me to buy.

Avada Kedavra

A killer book

Perfume: The Story Of A Murderer by Patrick Süskind

This book is one of my all-time favourites, it’s pretty killery and I’m definitely not going to spoil it. So, check it out!

Confundo

A book you find confusing

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brönte

I couldn’t think of any other book. To be honest, the confusing part was the whole familial relation, like who’s relate to whom and how. Eventually I had to print a fan-made family tree from the internet, for better focusing.

Expecto Patronum

Your spirit animal book

Pushing The Limits by Katie McGarry

A book which I also reviewed. As I explained in the review, I felt a strong connection with the main female character, which had a similar high-school social life as me. Although there are no similarities in appearances, there are quite a few in character and personality.

Sectumsempra

A dark, twisted book

Dracula by Bram Stoker

Just as Shannon I haven’t read that many dark, twisted books, but I think this one fits very good. I don’t think I need to make any introduction for the literary father of vampires. I think it represents one of the best vampirism portrayal in literal history.

 Aparecium

A book that surprised you in a great way

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

We had to read this in English class and I guess everyone knows how it feels “having” to read a book instead of “wanting” to read a book, but this book didn’t give me that feeling. I really enjoyed and I’m sure I’ll read it again some day.

I Nominate:

Thank you for reading this. It’s been real fun writing it! Wish you all a wonderful week!
